: Prof. dr. René Remie

Professor René Remie, author and editor of “Manual of Microsurgery on the Laboratory Rat, studied Pharmacy at the University of Groningen.

In 1983 he specialized in pharmacology and did his PhD on the presynaptic modulation of noradrenergic neurotransmission in the portal vein of the freely moving rat. In 1991 he specialized in Laboratory Animal Science.

He is the Laboratory Animal Scientist of Solvay Pharmaceuticals.

Since 1997 he holds a chair on Microsurgery and Experimental Technique in Laboratory Animals at the Groningen Centre for Drug Research, Department of Bio-Monitoring and Sensoring, University of Groningen, the Netherlands.

: Dr. Klaas Kramer

Dr. Klaas Kramer is a specialist in radio-telemetry techniques. He did his thesis on the application and evaluation of radio-telemetry in small laboratory animals, at the Department of Laboratory Animal Science, Veterinary Faculty, Utrecht University, The Netherlands.

He is employed a co-worker in Laboratory Animal Science at the Free University of Amsterdam and part-time scientist at the Department of Laboratory Animal Science, Veterinary Faculty, University of Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Inge de Greeuw

I
nge de Greeuw graduated in 1999 as an animal technician. From September 1997 till September 2001 she worked as (a trainee) animal technician at the Free University of Amsterdam. From September 2001 till July 2003 she worked as animal technician at IDDLO Lelystad, The Netherlands. Since July 2003 she works partly for Rephartox B.V., a Contract Research Organisation and partly for International Microsurgical Training Centre (IMTC) as animal technician and as course instructor. Rephartox and IMTC work close together in developing microsurgical techniques and telemetry models for small laboratory animals. The most important activities of Inge during the IMTC courses: Inge gives instruction in (micro) suturing techniques, cannulations, implantation of telemetry devices. Furthermore she has a responsible for proper anaesthesia of the small laboratory animals.

Mr. Hans Bartels

Hans Bartels is a research bio technician at Groningen University with 27 years of experience in numberless microsurgical techniques such as anastomoses of arteries, veins and nerves and the cannulation of arteries, veins and ducts (bile and thoracic). He has performed transplantations of the rat heart, the lung an the thymus and did a lot of research on techniques with vascular- and nerveposthesis.

He is (co)author of more than twenty scientific papers.

Since 1990 he is a regular teacher on our basic course on microsurgery at Utrecht University, the Netherlands.

Mr. Willem Kloots

Willem Kloots has been working for more then 38 years at the Unilever Research & Development Laboratory. He is educated in pharmacology and physiology and is specialized in general microsurgical techniques such as cannulation of the portal vein and jugular vein, implantations of fistulae's (in the small intestine) and telemetry devices in small laboratory animals.

Since 1992 he is a regular teacher on our basic course on microsurgery at Utrecht University, the Netherlands and
In 1999 he began teaching also at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense.

Mr. Hans Vosmeer

Hans Vosmeer has more than 30 years experience in microsurgical and experimental techniques. He is head of the large laboratory animals section at the central animal facility of Utrecht University. He teaches experimental techniques and practical aspects of anaesthesiology at several institutes. His surgical specialties are:
